How Do I Clean and Store Silk Products?

Silk is a very delicate and fragile natural fibre that requires a special way of washing and caring for it to maintain its lustre and softness. Here are some suggestions for washing silk products:
1. Hand washing is best: Hand washing reduces damage to silk and avoids distortion and colour fading.
2. Use mild detergent: Choose detergents specially designed for silk, and avoid using detergents containing bleach or strong alkaline.
3. Cold water washing: Use cold or lukewarm water (not exceeding 30°C), hot water may damage silk fibres.
4. Wash gently: Rub gently, avoid scrubbing or twisting to avoid damaging the fibres.
5. Do not soak for too long: silk should not be soaked in water for a long time as this may cause the colours to fade.
6. Avoid direct sunlight: After washing, lay the silk products flat to dry and avoid direct sunlight, as ultraviolet rays will make the silk turn yellow.
7. Do not use the dryer: the high temperature of the dryer may damage the silk and cause shrinkage or distortion.
8. Ironing precautions: If ironing is needed, it should be done when the silk is half dry, use low temperature ironing and put a layer of clean fabric on the silk to avoid direct contact with the iron.
9. Storage: When storing, make sure the silk products are completely dry to avoid moisture leading to mould. It is best to hang or store them flat and avoid folding them for a long time.
10. Regular Cleaning: Even if not worn frequently, silk products should be cleaned regularly to prevent the accumulation of stains and dirt.
Please follow the instructions on the specific washing label of the product as different silk products may have different washing requirements.
